The sustainability committee will be facilitating a community engagement process to gather community input, comments, and questions on a sustainability plan for the Library Corporation. Generally, the plan will have the following components: a vision, goals that align with the Town of Concord's Climate Action & Resilience Plan, strategies, and implementation focused action plans. See the Climate Action Hierarchy for how these pieces fit together.
The sustainability committee will be hosting a number of community meetings to confirm the vision and establish goals and strategies. Any community input and questions are welcomed and encouraged before these meetings.
Based on feedback from the Sustainability Committee and the communtiy Idea Sessions in September 2020 the following areas were identified as the primary sections of the plan:
Includes library programming, educational resources, events, and communication about climate action and sustainability by the corporation and the Concordcommunity
Includes library building improvements, renovations and daily operations
The next phase of the planning process will include these steps:
1. October 2020: Reach out to key-stakeholders for listening sessions and continue to engage with the community at large
2. November 2020: Identify synergies between the Corporation’s sustainability planning process and the Library’s strategic planning to build on the building extension project’s sustainability features to the overall sustainability planning.
3. October 2020 - January 2021: Conduct three meetings per focus area to identify goals, strategies, and action steps to align with the town’s climate action plan and position the Corporation as a sustainability and climate action leader in Concord.
4. February to March 2021: Draft a written plan for review by the Corporation with community feedback.
5. April 2021: Launch the Sustainability Plan!
To support plan development, GreenerU and the Sustainability Committee will be hosting a series of meetings that encourage community participation and garner wide support:
GreenerU will host a series of facilitation trainings that introduce essential tools and concepts to run effective and inclusive meetings both in person and remotely. The Sustainability Committee, Library Committee, and Library staff will be invited to attend.
Key stakeholder groups will be invited to learn about the planning process, contribute ideas and questions, and learn about future opportunities for engagement.
A total of 6 meetings (3 per focus area) will be held between October-January. During these meetings, the Sustainability Committee will invite the community to support the development of goals and strategies to be included in a 5 year sustainability strategic plan for the Library Corporation.
Reach out to Bridget (bridget.s@greeneru.com) or Lisa (lisa.b@greeneru.com) if you would like to attend a listening session or if you'd like to host a session for a committee/group you support.
