Scope 1 emissions: GHG emissions generated on site, typically through the combustion of fossil fuels, including emission from heating.
Scope 2 emissions: GHG emissions generated off-site, and are directly attributed to the institution's activity, such as emissions from electricity.
Scope 3 emissions: GHG emissions from the production, disposal, and transportation of services and products consumed by the institutions, travel linked to the institution.

MTCO2e = “Metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent”, used to measure GHG emissions
BUILDING ASSESSMENT ACRONYMS:
EUI = “Energy use intensity,” measure in kbtu/ gross square feet)
EMS/BMS = “Energy management system or building management system,” also can be referred to as “HVAC controls”
LED = “Light emitting diode,” typically referred to as LED - the most efficient type of lighting today
TOD = “Time of day”, typically referring to scheduling HVAC equipment
VRF = “Variable Refrigerant Flow,” HVAC system that is all-electric
GSHP = “Ground Source Heat Pump,” HVAC system that utilizes electric pumps to move water through wells in the ground and use that water to heat/cool spaces
DHW = “Domestic hot water”, term for water used in bathrooms, showers, sinks, etc.
