Recently, the Foo Fighters have been reportedly planning to go on an “indefinite hiatus”– as the band canceled their performance at the Soundside Music Festival only three days prior to the event. Frontman Dave Grohl sparked a bit of controversy regarding his personal life, having revealed in an Instagram post on Sept. 11, 2024 that there had been a child born outside of his marriage.

In the post, Grohl said, “I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.” This revelation went viral across social media and news platforms. Many fans are disappointed and surprised by Grohl’s actions. Given that he has been known to be the typical “nice guy”, cheating on his wife of over 20 years, Jordyn Blum, was not something expected of him. Also, putting his three daughters with Blum into consideration, fans are quite surprised by this outcome.

Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor also gave his opinion regarding the Grohl controversy, having stated, “It’s so messy, 100 percent messy … I know Dave Grohl. He is one of the nicest people on the planet. This [situation does] not mean he’s not a nice person, because I happen to know him as a person. It means he’s got f***ing issues and he f***ed up … He’s not perfect.” It's clear that many fans feel empathy for Blum, given the situation is especially impactful towards her. However, it is unclear whether or not Grohl’s affair has anything to do with the hiatus– given none of the band members have spoken out about it since the baby announcement.

Though many fans are disappointed with Grohl’s actions, it will not stop them from enjoying his music. Whether it might be the Foo Fighters or Nirvana, many fans can still appreciate the overall cultural impact he has made in the music industry. During this time, Grohl asks that his fans respect his personal life.
