In this opinion article, Ash will discuss why fall is the best.
Around Sept. 22 every year, a new season rolls around. Autumn, a season full of coziness, colorful trees and, most importantly, pumpkin spice. Usually, fall lasts from late September to late December; it marks the transition from summer to winter, and is connected to the harvest of crops.
Autumn is the best season. As it cools down from the harsh summer heat and sweater weather begins, the colorful change of leaves also starts to create beautiful scenery. However, when the leaves fall, they create a hassle of work to complete. It is always fun to jump in the pile, starting the strenuous process again. The best part of the season is Halloween, which takes place mid-autumn, on Oct. 31, every year, bringing spooky decorations, carved pumpkins, horror movies, and much more.
In the community of Grants Pass, Oregon, a fan favorite location to enjoy the fall weather is in the Hidden Valley area. Ms. McLane, an English teacher at Grants Pass High School, said, “I like driving towards Hidden Valley, because there is fog, the clouds are low, and it's just beautiful.” Others prefer being in the comfort of their own homes. Another teacher at Grants Pass High School, Mr. Cheek, says that his favorite place to be during the fall is “At my house, away from people.”
During fall, there are many activities that take place and many traditions have been followed. Some towns hold festivals, while others have pumpkin patches and corn mazes. In Grants Pass, Oregon, a nearby farm, named Fort Vannoy farms, holds a corn maze with some other activities every year. Fort Vannoy Farms say that the farm "celebrates the Fall Harvest Season with a Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch.” Some traditions are spookier than others, such as haunted houses or preparing for a spooky Hollow's Eve, as said by Ms. McLane, whose favorite activity to do during the fall is “plan for Halloween.” Aside from all the Hallows Eve preparations and out-and-about pumpkin patches, Mr. Cheek says his favorite activity is to simply “curl up in a blanket and read.”
While others may say that it gets too cold or that the days are shorter, autumn really is a perfect balance of all seasons-- not too hot and not too cold, with sweaters all day and hot cocoa or iced coffee in your hands, and the pretty trees burned into your mind for years to stay. Fall really is a joyous time for anyone no matter the age, filled with fun, family, and pumpkins.
