In this article, Peter talks about the violent reaction after the release of A Minecraft Movie.
For those growing up in the late 2000s and early 2010s, there was a game that seemingly changed every single child’s life forever: Minecraft. It is a world filled with cubes. Food is cube-shaped, animals are cube-shaped-- legitimately, everything is cube-shaped. Now, why is Minecraft such a staple of Gen Z life? It is due to players having access to immense creativity? At first introduction of the game, a person could build a house, a town, or a city, but talented “Minecrafters” can now create sculptures, towers, or anything else their minds think of. Minecraft is now known as a multibillion-dollar game after “Microsoft’s $2.5-billion purchase of Minecraft” states Microsoft News. To make up for this major purchase, Microsoft had to extend the potential of Minecraft with games like Minecraft Story Mode, applying an actual story to the game, and now the introduction of a movie. Wait: why a movie?
Who knows, really. The most basic answer to that question is corporate greed. The executives sat in a million-dollar mansion and thought, “How do we abuse Gen Z and Gen Alpha’s nostalgic attitude to this game?” Instead of utilizing animation to create the movie, the movie was mainly green screen and real-life humans. Now, who are these humans in the movie? Well, this star-studded cast includes: Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Jennifer Coolidge, and Danielle Brooks. Of course, Jack Black is Steve, but that seemed like a worrisome casting choice. Mr. Black has always played a similar role in every movie he has been a part of-- the wacko one-liner-based “hero”. While the casting was weird, it did not turn away any fans. Even the writer of this article watched this so-called A Minecraft Movie (it was fun, very fun), but in no alternative reality did the curators of this movie expect the amount of madness this movie has caused.
So, to run down the process of watching a movie at the movie theater (for those FREAKS who have never been). Step 1: Either purchase the ticket/tickets in person or online. Step 2: Go get snacks or sneak in snacks (movie food is expensive). Step 3: Go to the right number and sit down. Step 4: Watch the movie. Finally, Step 5: Leave the theaters and talk to whoever about how good or bad the movie was. Pretty simple, right? Well, with A Minecraft Movie, many viewers say otherwise.
The new trend as of right now is to be as loud, as chaotic, and as destructive as possible when a famous line from either the ads of the movie or trending audio on the internet is on screen. There are multiple examples of this destructive behavior throughout the internet. It is trending on TikTok specifically, especially yelling the constant one-liners Jack Black sprinkles throughout the movie. It has gotten so big that Fox 13 even got involved in the unnecessary ruckus the fans of this movie have made. In the article, they bring up havoc in Australia, writing, “Moviegoers trashed a theater during the screening of A Minecraft Movie in Australia, and the extent of the mess was only revealed when the lights were turned back on. Debris was scattered everywhere, and video showed the moments attendees started throwing toilet paper and cheering when 'Chicken Jockey' appeared.” This Minecraft Madness is worth no one's time; this trend has resulted in immense law authority involvement, and warnings at the start of the movie to stop any type of yelling or messes from being made.
At the end of the day, A Minecraft Movie is not worth any kind of destruction. Everyone understands that it is a major part of the newer generation's childhood, but to ruin the other viewers' enjoyment and also force the movie workers to clean up your mess is plain sad. As a viewer, after watching the movie, leave the workers (every one of them) a 100-dollar tip in their pockets. If that is not possible, then just thank them. They are trying their best.
