In this article, Melanie discusses the GPHS 2025 Spring choir concert: The Peace of Wild Things.
On Tues., Apr. 8, 2025 at 7 p.m., the Grants Pass High School choir hosted their annual spring choir concert. It lasted approximately an hour and a half, and consisted of diverse and eclectic song choices. This annual concert was a choral display of springtime and the warmer months. All five choir ensembles participated in this standing ovation-receiving performance.
This brief but outstanding performance was met with applause and cheer, with many people agreeing that all the choirs performed strongly. According to Rylie Revercomb, a Concert Choir member, it was their best one yet. The performance was led by Ms. Pulsipher, and held in the Performing Arts Center auditorium. The choir has been practicing these songs since January. Students were well prepared and excited to sing. Lexi, a ninth grade Contemperary Choir student, agreed to a brief interview on this topic. According to her, Ms. Pulsipher did a great job preparing her, and she said that she did not feel nervous. She also stated that all the choirs did well. However, they have a lot to learn.
A few songs included in this performance were "River in Judea", "Reuben Reuben", "Cowgirl Jolene", "The Kraken", "El Hambo". and "Witness". "River in Judea", a combined song, was about faith. "Reuben Reuben" is a humorous and teasing song, sung by Melodaires. According to Rakie Jagne, a Melodaires student, the choir performed well. "Cowgirl Jolene" was a parody of "Cowboy Joe" sung by Concert Choir girls. "The Kraken" was a song about sailors encountering the notorious sea monster, sung by the Concert Choir guys. "El Hambo", a silly song paired with choreography was sung by Concert Choir. Lastly, the Contemporary Choir sang "Witness", a song about gaining followers of God.
Looking ahead, the choir only has the Beatles concert and graduation performance left until the end of the school year. As the choir wraps up their fabulous year, they need to start looking ahead at next year by preparing auditions. Auditions are nearing at the beginning of May, and the next wave of singing stars will soon shine bright.
