This film franchise After is repetitive, dramatic, and corny. These movies will make everyone pause for a moment and rethink their life choices. If people actually enjoy this movie, then they probably also enjoy being in a toxic relationship and getting involved in love affairs. I mean, who doesn't love a British man with mommy and daddy issues? From throwing bread rolls to shattering glass, this movie DEFINITELY has it all.
To start off, the main characters, Tessa and Hardin, are so terribly toxic for many different reasons. Hardin is so co-dependent on Tessa and just relies on her to drop everything for him. They fight at least ten times in each movie about unnecessary controversies that do not really make any sense. In the first movie, Tessa allegedly thought Hardin was cheating on her at a party when he went upstairs with a different woman. Minutes later, she was screaming at him and kissed another guy right in Hardin’s view. Oh! Guess what happens next! Hardin is cussing her out and ends up leaving her alone at the party. People might say that, just because they keep going back to each other, “They are in love with each other!!” but, no, it is actually called toxicness. It is so very noticeable in the movies.
I don’t think I have ever seen a more repetitive series than this one. All of these films have literally the same plot. Tessa and Hardin fight, yell at each other, cry, break up, see each other at a bar, hook up, and get back together in EVERY movie. What is interesting about this? The only thing that changes in every movie is Tessa’s hair. In the third movie, Hardin moves to Boston with his mom and cries when looking at pictures of Tessa. Oh no! So terrible! You definitely aren’t about to see her in three hours! Yeah, his anger issues kick in and he thinks Tessa is cheating on him, so he races back to her in Washington. It is just such a basic over-talked-about relationship. It is hard to tell if After is one of those movies where the day keeps repeating itself because for some reason this plot line never changes.
It is bad enough that producers made four (and are still making more) movies, but it is even worse that the editor approved FIVE books before these movies were even thought about coming out. According to Cosmopolitan Magazine, this series was based on a Harry Styles wattpad fanfiction by Anna Todd. I repeat, a WATTPAD FAN-FIC. Wow, these movies could really ruin Harry Styles for me but, then again, that’s probably the only reason these movies are popular. The big question is: “If you really don’t like these movies, then why do you keep watching all the films if they are so repetitive?” and the answer to that is because I’m saving people from having to do it themselves.
I know this article is about how these movies are bad, so don’t waste time on them if the time hasn't been wasted already, but it might just be helpful to watch and figure out what I am talking about to tell this advice to others. These films are like those “Spot The Difference” activity books... but without the differences and you will get bored doing it. Welp, hopefully, this was helpful. One last reminder: don’t watch the new one. It will be the worst two hours of your life.
