This is the state recommended model for DLI
If you have 2 DLI classes and 1 traditional English class in a grade level, you may choose to follow the 2 Teacher Model or this 3 teacher model. If you choose this model, make sure teachers follow recommended schedules in the day to teach all subjects including English-only literacy. Otherwise, it is common to not get enough literacy in for the English-only students.
If you do not have enough students for 2 classes, you may need to follow a 1 teacher model. Here are some options.
1 bilingual elementary licensed teacher can teach both English and the target language following the Utah DLI Model pie charts.
2 teachers teach 2 grades: This is the state-recommended model as it still follows the 2 teacher assurance and separation of languages. 1 English teacher teaches two grades level. 1 target language teacher (elementary or secondary licensed) teaches two grade levels. Thus students experience the 2 teacher model, but teachers teach 2 different grade-level classes. (Example: Spanish teacher teachers 3rd grade Spanish in the morning and 4th grade Spanish in the afternoon. English teacher teaches 4th grade in the morning and 3rd grade in the afternoon.)
