This basic woodwork course consists of designing, planning, and using hand and power equipment correctly and safely. Safe practices, design, finishes, and an introduction to the various woods and materials available will be emphasized. Students will be required to pay for the wood used on their individual projects.
What should I be able to know or do to take the class?
A beginning woodworker should have basic computer skills.
The new woodworker should be creative and want to use their imagination.
The student will want to have fun and be actively involved with their learning .
What are three things a student will do or make?
Students will complete two personalized projects that demonstrate creativity and imagination.
Students will demonstrate and use machinery and equipment safely.
Students will use technology to design and build projects using; laser engraving, CNC routering, and CAD design tools.

This is an excellent foundation course for a career in woodworking or construction. It is designed to instruct students in the areas of reading project drawings, knowledge of woods and uses, calculations of materials, numerous joinery designs, wood lamination, and project procedures. A major emphasis will be placed on shop safety, proper hand and power tool usage, and wood processes. Students will be required to pay for the wood used on their individual projects.
What should I be able to know or do to take the class?
Students should have completed Woodworking 1 OR have a knowledge of basic computer skills
Students should have a general knowledge OR experience with the use of hand tools I.E.: hammers, drivers, chisels, saws, etc.
Students should be able to accurately make measurements using a tape measure or ruler
What are three things a student will do or make?Students will design and create a personal project using the CNC machine.
Students will mill and assemble a small cabinet or wall shelf.
Students will properly operate a CNC machine, laser engraver and woodworking machinery.

Woodwork 3-4 (Furniture Design/Manufacturing)

Course Length: Year
This woodwork course consists of designing, planning, and using hand and power equipment correctly and safely. This course provides students with in-depth instruction in the woodshop. Students will use practical knowledge needed to work on their own projects and continue with lifelong skills in woodworking. Safe practices, design, finishes, and furniture design and manufacturing will be this course's main purpose. Students will be required to pay for the wood used on their individual projects.
What should I be able to know or do to take the class?
Students should be able to measure and mill wood material to with in 1/16 of an inch using woodworking machinery
Students wil need to demonstrate creativity and imagination
Students should feel comforatable working a group/team
What are three things a student will do or make?Students will design on a computer and create a personal project.
Students will use computer software to creater code that will carve a pearsonalized name plaque.
Students will make a piece of furniture for the home (chair, rocking chair) or a musical instrument (ukuele or flute).

This class prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills needed to create custom cabinets, fine furniture, and architectural millwork. It stresses the safe use of trade hand tools and machinery used in the production of millwork items. Furniture and cabinets, such as kitchens and vanities, are constructed, finished, and installed as part of this program. Students will be required to pay for the wood used on their individual projects. *Students desiring college credit must complete the admissions process for Salt Lake Community College by August 15.
