1 for Section Leaders/Drumline Captain
Junior Drum Major/Associate Drum Major
Students can apply for JDM as sophomores for their junior year. This position is the most prestigious position within Grafton Bands. Once the JDM enters their senior year they are promoted to SDM and use their experience to help guide the new JDM and ADM in their roles. The SDM and the JDM choose the theme for the field show.
Students can apply for ADM as juniors for their senior year. This is a new drum major position. They will help write the drill for the field show, conduct the field show as a field conductor, sub in for the SDM or JDM for parades(if needed), conduct for pep band games, and all of the usual jobs for the drum majors.
The three Drum Majors work together to plan and conduct the homecoming field show and work with the director to organize and run band camp in August, marching rehearsals, and pep band as well as other general leadership responsibilities throughout the year. Drum Majors should be the best example of student leadership, not just within band, but throughout all of GHS.
The JDM application process starts with a written application. The application is open for 2 weeks. The week that the application closes, we will conduct interviews before conducting auditions the week after. There will be conducting classes during BHT leading up to the auditions. All applicants participate in all 3 phases of the application process. The selection committee consists of Mr. Brown and the current Drum Majors.
For Conducting Auditions, students will conduct the National Anthem and one(1) of the following pep band tunes: December, Land, Holiday, or Paint it Black.
The ADM application process is the same as the JDM except there is no conducting audition. The selection committee consists of Mr. Brown, the current Drum Majors, and the newly appointed JDM.

Drumline Captain
All current Grafton Bands students are welcome to apply for section leader. The position lasts for one year and new section leaders are picked each year. You can be section leader for consecutive years.
Section leaders are the bridge between the Drum Majors and the rest of the band. Section leaders guide their section through band camp and marching rehearsals, relaying information about the drill and mentoring the underclassmen. They should be the first people that band members go to with questions.
Drumline Captain is the percussion section leader but with more responsibilities than a regular section leader. They coordinate and run rehearsals, plan performances, help select the show ensemble, and all of the usual duties of a section leader.
The Section Leader application process is just one written application. The selection committee is made up of Mr. Brown, the current Drum Majors and the future JDM and ADM.
The Drumline Captain is the same as the ADM, written application and interview. The selection committee is the same as it is for Section Leaders
