Hello, my name is Joe Brown. I am the Director of Bands at GHS. I teach high school band, music theory and 8th grade band as well as run the extra-curricular instrumental ensembles. I graduated from St. Norbert College in May of 2021 and began my job as the DOB at GHS later that summer.
My goal as a band director is to help every student be the best musician that they can be. I like pushing each and every student to get better each and every day. Our motto at GHS Bands is something I took from my college tennis team: Every Day We Get A Little Bit Better. That means that every day we find one thing to improve on. You can't fix everything all at once so if we identify one thing to improve on each day the sky is the limit.
One thing I want every student to know is that the band room is a safe space to be you. It is a safe space to make friends that care and will always be there for you because at the end of the day, band is a family. So whether you're here to escape and get lost in music, make music with friends, cry, laugh, talk, have fun, or anything else, just know that you are in a place where you can truly be you.
