Jazz I Auditions

This page has all of the resources you may need for Jazz I Auditions for the 2025-2026 school year.  Auditions will be held on June 4th after school.  If you plan on auditioning please fill out this form by May 30th.  Timeslots will be available June 2nd depending on interest.  If you would like to audition for multiple parts, please fill out the form separate times for each part.

For each audition, you will play from two lead sheets with the provided rhythm section backing track.  The first is the bossa tune Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White, and the second is the swing tune All of Me.  If you have questions on how lead sheets work, do not hesitate to ask.

Winds: Play the two heads once through, choose one tune to repeat and improv solo over.  Make sure to perform each tune in a manner appropriate to the style.

Rhythm Section: Auditions will be in groups with one on each instrument.  You will play the two tunes, drums should play an appropriate groove for the style, bass should follow the chord progression, and guitar and piano should follow the chords while incorporating the melody.
