ONLINE/HYBRID LEARNING | In accordance with our commitment to support individual student learning needs, Grandville High School offers a variety of non traditional courses. Eligible students may request enrollment in online or blended courses if certain parameters are met.
Blended Courses: These courses offer a combination of in-class and independent learning activities. Letter grades are earned in blended courses.
Michigan Virtual: A student enrolled in an online course through Michigan Virtual, may receive high school credit for work completed, provided:
The course is offered by an institution approved by the superintendent or designee;
The course is not offered at the student’s high school;
The student assumes responsibility for all fees (including tuition and textbooks); and
The building principal approves the course in advance.
Students may be limited as to the number of distance learning courses that apply toward high school credit. Grades earned in approved distance learning courses count toward a student’s grade point average, class rank, and eligibility for athletic and extracurricular activities.
Credit Recovery: Students may recover credit for courses through the online Odysseyware program. These options are arranged through the student’s counselor. Grading for the Odysseyware course is pass/fail.
SSTP (Self-Scheduled Time and Place): Students may request up to two (2) hours of online instruction, through the Odysseyware program at home and four (4) hours in seat at GHS. Grading is pass/fail.
Seat Time Waiver: Under certain circumstances, a student may benefit from being able to access their learning remotely. Students who are approved by principal or designee for a seat time waiver complete all of their courses online, through the Odysseyware program. Students in this program will earn credits towards graduation, but do not receive letter grades. Grading is pass/fail.
There are a limited number of seats available for students who request online learning through the Seat Time Waiver and SSTP Programs. Students who wish to take advantage of these options need to complete an application process and receive administrative approval. Requests for enrollment into online/hybrid courses may be denied for reasons such as, but not limited to: the student has previously failed an online course (due to low grade or non-completion) within the last 2 school years or capacity of the program has been reached. Additional information about Seat Time Waiver and SSTP can be found in the Counseling Office of Grandville High School.
