Imagine how you would feel if someone you cared about was brutally murdered, and you didn’t have the composure of knowing who committed this act of violence or being reassured that they are locked away for life. Forensic scientists have a substantial role in this relief for victims and their families. These people collect crime scene evidence to perform technical and scientific examinations, in attempts to catch the right criminal.
Forensic Scientists require about the same amount of education as any other job. To work in this field, you have to have at least a bachelor’s degree in natural or forensic science. After this, you must take in-depth training in pathology, to be able to examine the body’s organs and fluids, and tissue. Of course, it is essential to have the schooling to work in forensics, but to become a successful forensic scientist, it is valuable to contain critical thinking skills, be detail-oriented, and be exceptional at math and science.
There are also many perks of being a forensic scientist as well. For example, you would get benefit packages including health, dental, and life insurance packages. Additionally, forensic scientists get paid on sick days and vacations. While being paid around thirty dollars per hour, you will also be endowed if you feel ill, or decide to take some time for yourself. There are very few reasons that this profession could seem problematic. This job only has the same amount of scheduled work hours as a normal school day, but crimes can happen at any time, so you can never be sure when you are going to be needed. These instances are when you would be required to have a flexible schedule. Secondly, the evidence at the crime scene may be traumatizing, making it difficult to work in these conditions.
Because of all this, Forensic Science is the best route for me. Not only do I enjoy math and science, but I excel at these subjects at school, which would make the job more pleasant. To add to this, I am able to move around my schedule for important events as of now, so I imagine no difference in the future if I were to work in forensics. Lastly, I am extremely observant and am able to look at things from multiple different perspectives. For these reasons, I believe that a future in forensic science fits me perfectly.
