Johnson & Johnson: The Brothers Three
Johnson and Johnson,
The family company
Was first established
By just a mere three.
Robert, Edward, and James
Were just lowly brothers
Little did they know
What all they would discover.
Then came a hiccup
In the world of surgical tools
Doctors would reuse instruments
Which the brothers found to be uncool.
So they developed a new way
Something today’s patients need
Sterile medical equipment
With much more safety guaranteed.
Once those nasty, sneaky germs
Could be finally held at bay,
Patients were much more likely
To live to see another beautiful day.
Millions of limbs have since been saved,
And billions of lives, too.
All because the Johnson brothers
Asked, “What can WE do?”
Starting with only 14 employees
And the year being 1866
The Johnson and Johnson company
Took off without a hitch.
Soon they were expanding
And because they were such a good fit,
The three brothers became the creators
Of the first ever functional first-aid kit.
See, Robert Johnson
The pharmacy apprentice
Saw railroad workers struggling
And decided to do something momentous
Since the workers often got hurt
And hospitals were so far away
He and his brothers devised a plan
So people could dress their wounds easily everyday
Now it is a household norm
To keep first-aid kits around
Just in case you or a loved one
Takes a massive tumble to the ground
As you try to navigate your
Next series of unfortunate events,
Pause to shout a healthy “Thank You!”
To these three fine gents.
Because without the Johnson brothers
Striving to help and not just succeed
Our history would be even bloodier,
And, just where would we find a “Band-Aid,” indeed?
