Covent Garden Market Table

Students Build Cities

Community Project

Spring Celebration 2022 Date TBD.

"It was incredibly inspiring to see how students became engaged in their learning through the picnic table project."

"Students returned during lunch and after class because of their motivation to remain involved in the table project."

"Students are able to rescue credits and earn credits through community projects that are inspiring and interdisciplinary"

Students from H.B. Beal Secondary, Native Studies Visual Arts Program , FNMI Careers, and Student Success have collaborated with local artist Hawlii Pichette to design a new table for Covent Garden Market. The table was used as an entry point for Indigenous students from different subjects to collaborate and engage in their learning with Mrs. Flannery's FNMI Student Success class. The student table will be in close proximity to Hawlii's mural and table. A professional Indigenous artist who continues to inspire the students. We know that supporting in-risk students in Student Success means reassessing how we respond to their needs. Looking at strategies to co-design learning improves engagement, and completion results.

Mountsfield Public School collaborated with Hawlii to design their table and benches. Mountsfield's brainstorming inspired the market table opportunity to include Augmented Reality! Students co-designed app concepts with industry expert Exar Studio, Engage Art App to connect and bring their table to life. Students recorded their voices to share their learning in the AR experience.

B. Davison and Saunders joined virtually Spring 2021 to brainstorm and design their table. Their artist mentor was Evond Blake, known as "Mediah" to design their tables. B. Davison and Saunders completed painting the table in the Fall of 2021 and look forward to the Spring 2022 celebration of the tables.

Schools participating in the project include:
