Advice for a Positive Work Environment
- Never refuse an opportunity to learn.
- Communication with your employer is key.
- If you want to try something at work, speak up.
- Be sure to clearly organize your work hours with your employer before you start.
- Try as hard as possible.
- On your first work day, take a deep breath and relax before you walk in the door.
Advice Regarding the Co-op Program
- Make sure you get your hours in throughout your placement - don't leave it until the last minute. Same goes for assignments.
- Keep up with the school news via the website - so you don't miss out on anything important.
- Students should have a "trial run" at their workplace.
- I didn't know what to expect on integration days - expect a lesson and assignments!
- Set aside time to submit your hours online and complete a weekly journal.
- Students need training on how to behave appropriately and professionally at their placement.
General Advice
- This experience has given me the confidence to pursue a career in this field.
- The people you meet are important because you never know when you will need a contact in the future.
- It will give you a firm grasp on your field of interest.
- It's highly beneficial to learn "in the field".
