Why Take Music at Lucas?

From a nurturing environment, to meaningful performance experiences, to an authentic development of 21st century skills, the Viking Music Department strives to meet the needs of all students. There are several opportunities for students to get involved and take on leadership roles throughout the school year, creating deep-rooted memories and cultivating friendships that last a lifetime!

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC

All instrumental music courses are scheduled during students' normal timetables. Students learn a variety of musical and interpersonal skills, building on their personal musicianship each year. See Mr. Virtue or Ms. Murawski for more information.

VOCAL MUSIC AND CONCERT CHOIR

All vocal music courses occur during half of Period 4 Lunch each day throughout the year. Concert Choir rehearsals are on Tuesday and Thursday during the first half of Period 4 Lunch. Students enrolled these vocal music courses receive 1 full credit per school year, in addition to their scheduled courses during the regular school day.

BAND REPERTOIRE

A. B. Lucas has three concert bands for repertoire courses. Grade 9 students participate in the Grade 9 Concert Band, grade 10 students participate in the Grade 10 Concert Band, and grade 11 and 12 students participate in the Senior Concert Band. Students enrolled in repertoire courses receive half a credit per year, in addition to their scheduled courses during the regular school day.

CONCERT BAND REHEARSAL SCHEDULE:

Grade 9 Concert Band meets on Wednesday mornings at 7 A.M. and Fridays during the first half of Period 3 Lunch
Grade 10 Concert Band meets on Wednesdays during the first half of Period 4 Lunch and Friday mornings at 7 A.M.
Senior Concert Band meets on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 7 A.M.
