Jazz Band rehearsals often runs FRIDAY mornings, 7am-8am.
Jazz Band is a small group of students who are dedicated and who are willing to give up an hour before school once a week. We are a very tight-knit community, and never fail to have lots of fun!
Jazz Band here at Glendale is an ensemble made of brass instruments (trumpet, trombone), saxophones (alto, tenor and baritone), as well as drum kit, and piano! If you don't play any of those instruments, and still want to join, there are still options for you! You can talk to Mr. Lam, who runs it, about joining.
Members of Jazz Band get to explore playing challenging repertoire, and have plenty of performance opportunities at Glendale as they typically perform multiple pieces for the three annual concerts. If you want to, you even get the opportunity to learn improvisation, as well as showcase your improvisation skills in concerts!
As for the pieces we play, we typically try to strike a balance between popular jazz pieces and more obscure ones. You'll get the chance to play a variety of jazz pieces, such as....
"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" arr. V. Lopez
"Jingle Bell Boogie" arr. B. Kidd
"Angels We Have Heard on High" arr. P. Clark
"Every Little Thing She Does is Magic" arr. P. Murtha
"Woodchopper's Ball" arr. M. Sweeney
"Here's That Rainy Day" arr. J. Edmondson
