Below you will find information about all of the classes that are offered in the Glendale Music Department! The music department goes beyond band, choir and council. We have music classes AND guitar classes, where you can learn all of the basics to the classical guitar!
Whether your elementary school had a music department or not, Grade 9 music class gives you a wonderful opportunity to start out with your instrument of choice! You'll get to play a variety of ensemble, small ensemble, and solo pieces. You'll also learn the basics of music theory and history.
You need no prerequisites or any previous musical experience to take this course!

This course emphasizes the performance of music at a level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill and is aimed at developing technique, sensitivity, and imagination. Students will participate in creative activities that teach them to listen with understanding. They will also learn correct musical terminology and its appropriate use.
Grade 10 music class furthers what you learned the previous year. You get to learn more about instrument techniques, tone, theory, history, and other topics to help you play better and appreciate music more.
You will need a prerequisite of AMI101 to take this course.

This course emphasizes performance of music at an intermediate level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill. Student learning will include participating in creative activities, listening perceptively and analyzing Medieval, Baroque and contemporary music as well as music videos. Students will also be required to develop a thorough understanding of the language of music, including the elements, terminology, and history.
Typically, Senior Winds runs as a split class with Grade 11 and Grade 12. In these final years, you will have the opportunity to hone the quality of your playing. Interested in other aspects of music? You can even experiment with composition and conducting!
You will need a prerequisite of both AMI101 and AMI201 to take this course.

This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis, and performance of various kinds of music, including baroque and classical music, popular music, and Canadian and non-Western music. Students will perform technical exercises and appropriate repertoire, complete detailed creative activities, and analyse and evaluate live and recorded performances. They will continue to increase their understanding of the elements of music while developing their technical and imaginative abilities.
Whether you play guitar or are optimistic to learn, Guitar classes at Glendale walk students through the basics of guitar on a CLASSICAL guitar. If interested, students can take guitar in grade 11 or 12 and learn more advanced techniques, and skill that can be taken to a higher level of study!
You will need a prerequisite of AMG2O1 to take AMG3M1, and a prerequisite of AMG3M1 to take AMG4M1.

Students are also required to develop a thorough understanding of music literacy including the basic elements, terminology, and history. This course is designed for the beginning guitar student who will learn how to tune the guitar, read chord charts and play melodic notation in several genres including folk, rock, pop, blues, jazz and classical styles.
