It is hard to believe  we are halfway through October. The children have been very busy and have settled nicely into routines and get along well. They are kind, caring and respectful to one another. 

Our first auction was a success. The children were very excited to participate. We are still accepting donations for the auction as it will be held on the last day of the month throughout the school year. 

Meet the Teacher night was a great success it was lovely to see all the families come out.  Thank you for your continued support. 

Our focus in language continues to be poetry. We are writing different types of poetry and learning various poetry styles and rules.  We will begin working on our persuasive writing skills at the end of the month.  We have been working hard on developing our independent reading skills and this has become a very important part of our day.  

Remember to read 20 minutes a day at home. 

Our science focus is air, water, liquids and solids. for Grade 2 and soils for Grade 3. We are learning about the importance of soils, air and water. We are discussing the importance of keeping our environment clean.

We will begin our social studies unit on changing families for Grade 2   and heritage, identity and  early life in Canada for Grade 3 at the end of the month.  More information will be sent home as we get closer to the end of the month. 

In math, we are continuing to work on number sense. Please continue to practice skip counting forwards and backwards by 2's, 5's, 10's and 25's. Grade 2's need to understand numbers to 100 .  Please practice counting money with various coins and bills. We will also be working on our coding skills. 

 We will be having a Halloween party at the end of the month. Children are welcome to wear costumes. More information will follow.
