Animal Enrichment

Enrichment: process of enhancing animal environments within the context of the animal's behavioral biology and natural history. The goal is increasing the animal's behavioral choices.

Types of Enrichment:

• Sensory: encourages the animal to use its sense

• Manipulation/toys: an object the animal has to use in a novel way

• Diet: novel foods or novel way of receiving food

• Interaction: some animals are very social and enjoy interaction (be patient)

• Environmental: changes in the environment to encourage exploration
