Independent ELO
Independent ELO VS. ELO Elective Course
Students either sign up for the ELO elective course and work in a group setting during a regularly scheduled period or they complete an independent ELO on their own time with a coach. Completing an independent ELO requires dedication and self-motivation. We may ask students for proof of their ability to successfully work independently. Check out the options for ELO's below.
Basic Timeline of an Independent ELO and How to Get Started:
Complete an Independent ELO Interest Form.
Meet with an ELO Coach (Grace Olsen or Eliza Kenigsberg) and discuss options for your ELO type, time frame, expectations etc.
Set up a regular meeting time with your ELO Coach.
Work with your ELO Coach to identify an outside mentor or supervisor depending on ELO type.
Complete your ELO Syllabus with your ELO Coach. This will include identifying goals and an essential question to answer during your designed ELO.
Begin your ELO experience and complete a weekly reflection/google form about your ELO experience. Meet with your ELO coach three more times after placement has occurred (unless otherwise decided on).
Complete assigned reflection prompts mid-way and at the completion of your ELO & have a final credit evaluation
This timeline is general and will be tweaked on a case-by-case basis. The length of your ELO depends on the type of ELO you choose, your schedule, and your mentor’s schedule.
