For Parents

ELO's are for Juniors and Seniors at Gorham High School. The amount of credit issued to each student is dependent on how many hours they are able to fit into their schedule (in and out of school). These credits are counted as elective unless otherwise approved. 1 credit is equivalent to 120 hours. 0.5 credit is equivalent to 60 hours. Students are typically able to receive up to 1.5 credits for ELO's unless otherwise approved.

Student's will be paired up with an ELO Coach at the High School as well as an out of school mentor. ELO's are student driven and require a level of independence and self motivation. Coaches will be there along the way to give support and help where needed. If your child is placed in an independent ELO with a mentor, the ELO coach will typically be less hands on unless there is student need for more support.

You will need to fill out/sign some forms before your child can participate in an out of school ELO. Here is a link to the ELO Contract & Liability Form & the ELO Design Plan Blank Form for reference. These forms will be issued to the students after we have created their Design Plan and they have been accepted by a mentor.

DISCLAIMER:

To find placements for ELO students we try to build solid relationships with businesses in the greater Gorham community. While we have a lot of willing people who would love to work with us, we can’t always guarantee there will be a perfect opportunity for each student. Sometimes, we need to revisit options during a later semester or year.
