National Month Holidays

JUNE IS NATIONAL PRIDE MONTH!

The month of June was chosen to commemorate the progress of the gay pride movement, as June 28, 1969 was the day of the Stonewall uprising in New York that is remembered for sparking the modern gay rights movement, which coincided with other Civil Rights movements going on at the time.

LGBTQ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer, but the National Pride Movement encompasses anyone who feels their identity falls outside the mainstream.

Even if you do not feel your identity falls within these lines, there are many ways to support the LGBTQ community by celebrating this month with them by learning, listening and of course, reading!
