They also have a great effect on the way the message is presented and received. To begin our unit on Typography, take a moment to complete the handout below. This chapter introduces the role that typefaces play in producing printed images. Typefaces are important, not only to the communication of thoughts, but to the overall appearance or aesthetic characteristics of the printed image. Careful study of this unit will help you understand the information presented in later units.

There are several different typeface classifications. Seven typeface classifications are discussed in Chapter 6, including Roman, slab serif, sans serif, display, script, ornamental, and italic.

• Typefaces and Their Designers - Many of the earliest typefaces (some hundreds of years old) were named for the person who designed the face. Complete the chart below to learn more about some of the most famous early typeface designers. You may use info from Chapter 6 or the Internet. You will need to download the handout and open it in Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to complete. Save the completed document and place it in your shared folder in Google Drive.
• Review of Chapter 6 and Vocabulary - Continue reading and reviewing Chapter 6 beginning on page 113. Familiarize yourself with the Chapter 6 Vocabulary in the attached document. We will have a quiz over these terms on Tuesday, October 20.
• Complete Ch 6 Review Questions - Complete the Chapter 6 Review Questions, 1-21, on pages 130 and 131 of the online textbook. Instructions for accessing, completing, and submitting your responses are attached.
