To date, my field of research has focused on the development of optical techniques and methods and the study of optical properties of biomaterials, and specially, tissues generated in the laboratory by Tissue Engineering, such as human corneal and skin substitutes. Optometry and Vision is also fields of my interests.
I started researching about optical properties os human corneal substitutes, which was the aim of my PhD and it has not only been recognized at scientific level with publications in the first quartile, but it has also had great social impact for having participated in the development of the first bioartificial organ generated in Spain, whose clinical trials are taking place. I have been doing all this research since 2007 with the Laboratory of Biomaterials Optics (LBO) and my membership since 2010 to the FQM-151 group, collaborating in different works with important national and international research groups . As a result of all this, I would like to highlight the shared authorship of 32 publications indexed in the Web of Science, in journals with relative quality index in the fields of Optics, Tissue Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Ophthalmology, Multidisciplinary Sciences, Materials Science (Biomaterials) and Dentistry (Oral Surgery and Medicine). I have participated in 50 communications to international and national congresses in the last three years, all of them with external peer review. I also participate in research in the field of optometry. I have been invited as a speaker on several occasions, organized Workshops, been asked to do several papers with other public institutions and peer reviewer for journals indexed in the first third. All this research work has been done in the framework of 14 research projects, in 2 of them as PI.
As for teaching experience I teach theory and practices since course 2012/2013 the subjects of Optometry III (non-strabismic binocular problems) and Optometry IV (strabismus and sensory adaptations) of the BSc Degree of Optics and Optometry at the University of Granada. Currently, I teach Visual Therapy as well. In my academic background I have also teach subjects as Learning Disorders and Vision and Clinical Sessions of the MSc Degree in Clinical Optometry and Advanced Optics, which I direct.
