NS Book Bureau General Information
Nova Scotia's public schools purchase their learning resources (such as textbooks, software, manipulatives, etc.) through the Nova Scotia School Book Bureau (NSSBB). These learning resources have been reviewed and approved for classroom use.
Schools can purchase resources (up to 40% of their budget) outside of the Approved Learning Resource (ALR) collection, but they might be reviewed for bias using the province's Bias Evaluation Instrument Checklist.
If bias is detected in a proposed resource, the principal and teacher must meet to discuss the suitability of the resource for use in the classroom and create a plan for addressing the bias.
Regardless of whether or not the proposed resource is approved by the school principal, a Bias Evaluation Record must be completed by the principal and submitted to the Regional Centre Executive Director and then sent to the EECE Media Library.
Ordering Information
Schools have order deadlines. Your school administrator will communicate when orders are due. Order dates are posted here.
You can browse the resource library without logging, but to submit an order, you will need to login. See your school administrator for your username and password or to reset your password if your login is known.
