Choosing Classroom Resources

All classroom resources must be chosen with intention. It is the teacher's responsibility to ensure that resources are free from bias. Permanent or long-term resources must come from the ALR (Book Bureau) - they have been reviewed for bias. Short-term resources must be viewed for bias by the teacher. For more information on selecting resources for your classroom, visit the Classroom Resources page on the EECD Curriculum site under Teacher Information.

In addition to these documents, the Know the Signals guide helps teachers select resources that "value Black Student's Lives to ensure curriculum fit and developmental appropriateness. It is one of the inclusive education tools necessary to disrupt the silence of racism within Nova Scotia's school system to foster more inclusive environments." Know the Signals is a MUST-KNOW document.

NEW! Additionally, the EECD has two new important documents available for teachers: Teaching Sensitive Subject Matter and Teaching Controversial Texts.
