Spring Shoe Drive

SchoolsPlus will be hosting a Spring Shoe Drive at Five Bridges Junior High, starting April 4th and running until April 14th. We would appreciate donations of new or gently used footwear in all sizes, which can be dropped off in the box placed in the front lobby. NS Home Heating Assistance Rebate

The Heating Assistance Rebate Program helps low-income Nova Scotians with the cost of home heating. Rebates range from $100 to $200. You can apply until 31 March 2022. 211 offers food assistance for families who are in need of extra support. They also offer assistance with finding support for a wide variety of local resources as well. Contact them by either calling 211, or visiting their website by clicking here.

SPCA Pet Pantry offers pet food and litter to families who need temporary assistance. Complete the form here to apply.

This book club is for you if…

  • you are between ages 14-16

  • live in Atlantic Canada (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland & Labrador.

  • love reading & want to get cozy over with winter with free books & new friends!

  • have a device you can use to connect with us virtually (ex: via zoom).

  • are curious about exploring books by rainbow authors (2SLGBTQ+)

What would participating look like?

  • connecting a few times virtually from December to February to discuss the books or just have fun (games night?!). No pressure to come to everything, it’s like a choose your own adventure book club!

  • receive free books via the mail & some goodies! (the whole thing is free!!)

  • option to contribute to our upcoming podcast about 2SLGBTQ+ folks in Atlantic Canada.

If this sounds like something you’d love, we so hope you apply!

The application is really just to get to know a bit about you, and help us prioritize 2SLGBTQ+ youth, BIPOC youth, youth from rural places, newcomers to Canada, youth who are neurodivergent, and youth living with disabilities.

Please still apply if you are not from one of these groups or live outside Atlantic Canada! We are really going to try to turn no one away.

If you have been diagnosed with sleep apnea, have a valid prescription and cannot afford therapy (no insurance, fixed income), the Lung Association of Nova Scotia can add you to their wait list to receive a refurbished sleep apnea machine. Parenting Journey Program

The Fairview Family Resource services the Bay View Family of Schools area, and offers a wide variety of parenting support through their Parenting Journey program such as meal planning, parental check-ins, and can provide connections to community resources. Irving Fuel the Care program distributes fuel gift cards to the IWK to help families who need to access medical services. If you are interested in accessing this program, please call 902-470-8076.

The MacPhee Centre for Creative Learning is offering free virtual programming for Winter 2022. Their programs run from January 9th to March 4th on Zoom. Click here to register!

Free in-person grief counselling is available to those who need it at the Estabrooks Community Hall (4408 St. Margaret's Bay Road). Click here to see their full schedule.

The Couch of Hope offers free therapy sessions to individuals who are aged 10 and up. Sessions are 50 minutes in duration, option for in-person, video or phone. To register either call/text 902-707-4414 or email intake@couchofhope.com.
