Halifax Helpers offers tutoring services for either English as a Second Language or academic tutoring as well as conversation groups for students to practice their English. Their services are free, and registration can be completed by visiting their website.

The Youth Project works to ensure a safer, healthier, and happier place for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth through support, education, resource expansion and community development. Laing House offers non-clinical, people-centred mental health support for youth ages 16 - 29, with programming around healthy living, community navigation, employment and education and peer mentorship. The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Halifax offers programming for youth which encompass many areas such as community involvement, leadership and self-esteem building. Phoenix provides a wide range of services to both youth and their families. Their services are free of charge, and include housing support for youth, youth and family therapy, health services, employment counselling and education support. The Tantallon Public Library provides more than just free access to a wide variety of books for youth, but they also host events such as Bad Art Saturday, and various book clubs. For more information, please visit their website or contact them directly: (902) 826-3330.

The Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre offers a youth program called "We Are All Connected" for youth aged 15 to 30 which works to address key problem areas for Indigenous youth and bring together youth of different backgrounds to create change in the community. They also have a group for youth aged 9-14, called the "Junior Youth Program", which works with urban Indigenous youth to discuss their experiences and provide opportunities to assist with addressing some of the barriers and gaps they may face. Kids Help Phone is a 24/7 national service offering bilingual (English and French) professional counselling, information and referrals and volunteer-led, text-based support to young people. For assistance, call 1-800-668-6868, text CONNECT to 686868, or visit their website for a chat option.

The Halifax Public Library has a program called SunLife Musical Instrument Lending Library, which lends out musical instruments to library card holders for 3 week increments. For more information, please visit their website.

Online Resources and Apps

A self-help mental health program from the Canadian Mental Health Association that helps manage low-mood, depression, or anxiety and feel better at your own pace from the comfort of home. The Couch of Hope offers free therapy sessions to individuals who are aged 10 and up. Sessions are 50 minutes in duration, option for in-person, video or phone. To register either call/text 902-707-4414 or email intake@couchofhope.com.
