Speech to Text

Providing alternatives to traditional writing tasks fits with the Universal Design for Learning Guidelines - Providing Multiple Means of Action and Expression (CAST, 2021). This is especially important for those with physical or print disabilities. 

Using speech to text as an option for writing is an effective strategy for some students who struggle with handwriting or spelling and can support student independence.  

There are many options for speech to text in the classroom:

• Voice Typing in Google Docs and Slides 

• Chromebook Dictation 

• Talk & Type feature of Read & Write for Google Chrome 

• iOS Dictation on an iPad

Speech to Text often requires training and practice to be an effective strategy.
