Module 1: Leadership in the Classroom 15%

Module 2: Socially Responsible Leadership 15%

Module 3: Advocating for Positive Change in the Community 20%

(suggested time 25 hours)

Module 4: Project Planning and Implementation 30%

(suggested time 30 hours)

Module 5: Life Long Leadership (employment and personal development) 20%

(suggested time 20 hours)

The general and specific curriculum outcomes for Leadership 12 are meant to be integrated with one another so that students employ what they learn as they are developing, managing and implementing projects.

Module 1: Leadership in the Classroom 15%

This module emphasizes building a positive community of leaders within the students’ learning environment(s) during the first few weeks of the course. Building a positive learning community is integral to the course. Establishing ground rules, group norms and practices are essential within this period of time.

GCO 1: Students will participate actively in the creation of a positive classroom community

Students will

1. Develop group dynamics through effective team building strategies and decision making processes
2. Identify and apply the steps to effective conflict resolution
3. Apply their understanding of gender, diversity, and equity when building community and promoting positive group dynamics

Module 2: Socially Responsible Leadership 15%

GCO 2: Students will examine their core beliefs and values to determine their personal philosophy of socially responsible leadership

Students will

1. Demonstrate understanding of socially responsible leadership and how it applies to both individuals and organizations
2. Compare how socially responsible leadership varies across cultures
3. Examine and evaluate a variety of leadership approaches
4. Reflect on personal values and ethics in regards to social issues
5. Reflect on personal values and ethics in regards to social issues and examine how their personal attributes as a leader align to socially responsible leadership
6. Determine their personal philosophy of socially responsible leadership

Module 3: Advocating for Positive Change in the Community 20%

GCO3: Students will communicate in a variety of situations to promote positive change within their school and community

Students will:

1. Employ decorum related to the audience they are addressing in formal and informal situations to inspire and motivate others
2. Communicate with sensitivity and respect
3. Express ideas with clarity, conciseness and precision in both written and oral medium
4. Structure ideas and arguments in a logical persuasive manner and support them with relevant research and examples

Module 4: Project Planning and Implementation 30%

GCO 4 : Students will plan, develop, implement and manage projects which create positive change within their school and/or community.

Students will:

1. Develop a plan through research that addresses a need(s) within the school or community
2. Implement strategies for organizing, managing and delivering the plan and determine solutions for problems encountered
3. Evaluate the effectiveness of their project(s)
4. Demonstrate their understanding of the principles of equity in project planning and implementation

Module 5: Life Long Leadership (employment and personal development) 20%

GCO 5. Students will demonstrate understanding of how the skills and knowledge gained in Leadership 12 will prepare them for their future.

Students will:

1. Investigate and identify employment and service learning opportunities that require the skills, knowledge and understandings learned in Leadership 12
2. Apply the principles of effective networking
3. Participate in service learning within their community and/or school for a minimum of 15 hours and reflect on their experiences
