Helpful Resource: Gray matter vs White Matter https://www.spinalcord.com/blog/gray-matter-vs-white-matter-in-the-brain
Neurons never function in isolation, being organized into circuits that process specific kinds of information. A neural circuit is a population of neurons interconnected by synapses to carry out a specific function when activated. What makes our nervous system such a fantastic device is not that it has 100 billion neurons, but that these nerve cells are capable of communicating with each other in a highly interactive set of neuronal networks.
Three classes of neurons are the basic constituents of all neural circuits.
Afferent neurons: Nerve cells that carry information toward the central nervous system (or farther centrally within the spinal cord and brain). See sensation.
Efferent neurons: Nerve cells that carry information away from the brain or spinal cord (or away from the circuit in question).
Interneurons (IN): Nerve cells that only participate in the local aspects of a circuit.
The synaptic connections in a circuit are typically made in a dense tangle of dendrites, axons terminals, and glial cells.

Video- Watch Surviving the Teenage Brain VIDEO
Write a Letter on paper (one page long) to your Parents explaining "your Teenage Brain" and link it to the video you watched in class with specific references to the video. Explain to them why you do "whatever it is that you do" and reflect on how the brain develops now that you better understand the teenage brain. Be sure to include your thoughts on the "digital revolution": How are your electronics impacting you and how can your parents support you with this? DUE by Wednesday, October 1st at 3:25pm.
OR have your parent/guardian email me to my hrce email account, holmesd@hrce.ca
telling me that you had a conversation with them about the video and what you learned about your brain by watching this video. The email needs details on what you and your parent talked about, not just simply that you had a conversation. Explain the role of social media in your teenage life. How is the new cell phone in school policy going for you? Due by Tuesday, September 30th at midnight at the latest. MAKE SURE YOUR NAME IS IN THE SUBJECT LINE OF THE EMAIL so I know who is getting the points for the email from your parent/ guardian.

You might want to measure your blood sugar before meals to get a baseline, and then two hours after your meal to measure your "normal blood sugar level". Your doctor might also suggest measuring blood sugar before bed to be sure you have been eating well throughout the day and can go to sleep with peace of mind.
These are considered within the range of "normal" for blood sugar:
Less than 140 mg/dl if you do not have diabetes.
Less than 180 mg/dl if you have diabetes.
