The clarinet has seven main parts which include the bell, lower join, upper joint, barrel, mouthpiece, ligature and the reed.

 Most student model clarinets are made of plastic and advanced model clarinets are made of wood. Wood clarinets produce a beautiful sound but are more expensive and also much more fragile. It is reccommended for beginner clarinet players to use a plastic student model instrument.
