English Language Arts Grade 8 Curriculum Guide
The DEECD has recently released an updated P-2 literacy curriculum that reflects the 6 pillars known to be important for effective literacy development. This will change some of the instruction that takes place in the lower elementary. This is relevant to middle level teachers because it provides important information about literacy development and how our students learn to read; for those of our students who are struggling, these documents can help to strengthen our understanding of where their intervention needs to start.Â

Teaching Controversial Texts: A Guide for Teachers

One frequently asked question relates to the "cultures of communities" outcome, found at the very beginning of the Grades 7 & 8 renewed ELA curriculum. This document contains links to a variety of resources that can be used to address that outcome, including all of the texts available for Social Studies.
