Hello Tigers,
I hope that you are all staying safe and healthy. I am going to put some activities on this website that you can do at home. Most of the the activities can be done without any instruments, but having some device that can access and play music will be necessary.
I miss every last one of you and can wait til we can get back into our music room and make music together!
Parents,
The activities that have been provided on the Music Activities pages are designed to be done at home with little to no preparation, very little use of technology, and no musical training on your part. You do not need to keep a record or submit recordings of your student. These activities are intended to provide opportunities for musical explorations within your family and your home in fun, easy, and sometimes silly ways. It is not my intention that your students do all of the activities on the choice boards every week ,but rather that they do four or five of their choices. Please use these activities as fun breaks that can help to shape your child's creativity, and confidence. Most of the activities will be able to be done without technology however some of the activities will require the ability to access and play music.
As I ask you to help me teach your child music I want to share with you a quote, I keep on my wall at school, from one of my heroes.
“ Watch the kids. Do like they do. Act like they act. Yell like they yell. Dance the way you see them dance. Sing like they sing. Work and rest the way the kids do. You’ll be healthier. You feel wealthier. You’ll talk wiser. You’ll go higher, do better, and live longer here amongst us if you’ll just only jump in here and swim around in these songs like the kids do. I don’t want the kids to be grownup. I want to see the grown folks act like kids.” -Woody Guthrie
Take these opportunities to be silly and have some fun. Let your child take the lead. Also take this opportunity to share your own musical culture. Share your favorite songs with your kids, teach them a song you remember a family member singing. Don’t worry about whether you sound good, your kids won’t care. They are very forgiving, they have to listen to me sing all the time, and trust me I don’t have the voice of an angel!
I miss my students and can't wait to be back in our music room sing, dancing, and being silly everyday.
Stay safe. Wash your hands.
Mr. Robinson
