Ways to Support Your Child's Learning

Look for signs of spring with your child. Talk about the seasons. Which is your child's favorite season and why? What is your favorite and why?

Talk about how your family tries to be a responsible member of the community and the world.

Tell your child about any nonfiction reading you do -- books, newspapers, manuals, online articles, etc.

Have a conversation about plants. What do plants need  to survive?

Classroom Update

Language Arts

We have been reading nonfiction texts and learning to notice what the book is teaching us, ask questions about what we are reading, and notice new "fancy" vocabulary words.

Math

In Math, we are continuing to work on addition and subtraction with numerical amounts ranging from 0-10.

Social Studies and Science

In our unit, All About Our World, we are looking for signs of spring and discussing how our behavior changes with the season. We are also learning about ways we can reduce, reuse and recycle to keep our environment healthy.

In the spring we will study the science unit "Stayin' Alive." Students learn what plants and animals (including humans) need to survive. They will study the relationship between their needs and where they live. They will discuss how humans can reduce their impact on the earth. One engineering task activity will have students create habitats for zoo animals. The habitats will resemble the animal’s natural biome and meet their basic needs. These lessons will provide students opportunities to research, design, build, and explain their work.
