The purpose of concert band is to:
serve as a core foundation for all instrumental musical activities at Grand Island Senior High
provide an environment in which to explore the true art of expression through musical instruments
We will be working on all facets of music, from the basic ideas through the very complex, technical skills and how to incorporate them into our performance, performance etiquette, self-discipline, and development of aesthetic values for the art of music performance.
Please note the following regarding participation in HS Band:

Students will be able to experience music performance at the large group, small ensemble, and solo level to develop personal performance skills
Opportunities for developing leadership skills will be available

Students will be guided in their development and preparation for any scholarship opportunities in music in which they could audition
Percussion (9th-12th grade)
Our goals in this group will be to develop, enrich, and enhance proper percussion technique, developing specific skills that are stylistically and characteristically required for high level percussion performance
Percussionists will experience performance with the full percussion group, small percussion ensembles, and solo work.
Percussionists will learn and experience all elements of percussion, ranging from battery and metallic percussion to keyboard/mallet work.

Percussionists will perform as a separate ensemble and as a part of either the Concert or Symphonic Bands.
All members of the Percussion group will be members of the Marching Band, which will be the main focus during the first quarter of the school year.
