Arizona became the first state to require students to pass a civics test as a requirement to graduate high school. In 2015, the Arizona legislature passed the American Civics Act (House Bill 2064). This bill will require students, beginning with the graduating class of 2017, to pass a Civics Test based on the United States Immigration and Naturalization civics questions. Students will be required to pass in order to graduate from high school or obtain a high school equivalency certificate. I expect my grade level students to obtain a 70% or higher and my honors level an 80% or higher.
Students complete their first attempt in 8th grade. My students have a 95% pass rate however they must put in the time to study as the test content spans from what they have learned from elementary through their 8th grade year.
A variety of materials are available for students to prepare for the Civics Test.
