Having completed my undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and a masters degree from DePaul University, and a year of teaching I set my sights on new ground and new territory 1700 miles from what I knew to find Arizona in July of 1996.
Throughout my educational career my enthusiasm and joy for learning has been the drive to helps me create new experiences year after year. Teaching is more than a job, it is not a calling, rather it is a passion for me. Physics is the avenue that I have selected because of its hands-on aspects, but it is truly not a love of mine. Rather I am passionate about student learning, how to have students interact with concepts to build a hands-on, minds-on approach. As a result I hold myself to high standards. This requirement of myself then allows me expect a great deal from those with whom I am lucky enough to work.
Having achieved my National Board Certification in Physics twice: 2006 and 2016, in my free time I enjoy working with dedicated professions who are seeking this advanced certification throughout all of Arizona.
I look forward to working with you, investigating your thinking, and learning how you tackle obstacles, setbacks, and challenges.
Physics will be unlike any other course you take at Desert Ridge High School for it is about discovery. Discovering yourself as a learner, yourself as a leader, and how you build your understanding through challenges and problems. Expanding your mind should excite your curiosity. Learning requires active participation and your engagement will improve your results.
Taking Physics at Desert Ridge gives you the preparation to tackle challenges. Difficult, confusing, and odd at times Physics IS the course that is required not just for Engineers, but Physical Therapy, Kinesiology, the Medical Field, Pilots, and so many more.
Physics uses mathematics, but is not another math course. Math is a tool like a meterstick or a scale. Physics is so much more for Physics explains the how and the why. Starting with movement then onto forces and energy, many of your past experiences will be explained within the elegant symphony called Physics.
