I am in my 28th year of teaching, all at Gilbert Public Schools. I've taught at Gilbert Junior High, Mesquite Junior High, Mesquite High School, and now Desert Ridge High School. Additionally, I've taught summer school for 25 years at various locations around the district. In order to be hired at Desert Ridge High School in 2010, I was required to relinquish teaching US History and make a switch to teaching economics and it has become a labor or love. I had no idea what economics truly was until I began to teach it. Because of this experience, I feel I have a better understanding of the students' perspective of this course.
I am blessed to be married for 25 years to the wonderful Mrs. Caryl, whom is currently teaching Biology at Mountain View High School. We have three wonderful sons, one that successfully navigated AP Macroeconomics and is currently in the US Navy at Nuclear Power Training Command. The second son will be in AP Macroeconomics in the 2022-23 school year, and the third will be a freshman at Desert Ridge High School in the 2022-23 school year.
AP Macroeconomics is based on the premise that the national economy is broken and needs to be fixed. In order to make the appropriate corrections, we will complete six units of study per the College Board curriculum. We will matriculate through Basic Economics, Economic Indicators, National Income and Price Determination, Financial Sector, Long-Run Consequences of Stabilization Policies, and conclude with Open Economy - International Trade and Finance.
