21 - Growth, Cities, & Immigration

Assignment:

You will be creating a film including all aspects of the Growth of Cities and Immigration. Make sure to make the film in chronological order including all people, events, and aspects of the Growth of Cities and Immigration. Your goal is to show the story of an immigrant moving to a city and what their life would be like. You must make sure you edit your film to the highest quality. The film should be between 2-4 minutes. 

Things to Include:

• Western Europe immigration and treatment 

  • Ireland, Scandinavia, Germany

• Southern and Eastern Europe immigration and treatment 

  • Italy, Austria-Hungary, Russia

• Asian (Chinese) immigration and treatment 

  • ex: Chinese Exclusion Act, San Francisco schools, San Francisco laundry, citizenship, and Rock Springs, WY

• Move to:

  • farms --> made money on surplus harvest --> need to feed people in cities

  • cities ("little communities")

    • bad conditions
