Worksheets can be printed or picked up at the school. You could also read online and answer on paper or in your pink reading journal!

As we go forward in the school year each week of language arts will have a reading focus or a writing focus. Please continue with your daily reading of at least 20 minutes. There will also be daily word work.

New this week: Article of the Day . This acitivity boosts background knowledge, vocabulary and reading stamina

Some Ways to Practice Word Work

  1. Do a sort. Now that you have had some practice try a different sort. Watch the video for different sort ideas.

  2. Spell your words out loud (read the word, cover, spell and check).

  3. Rainbow write the words you are having trouble with.

Writing Assignment

Narrative Writing

  1. Watch the video. It is a review of a main event. Remember a great main even has a S T R E T C H E D out middle with action, description, thoughts, dialogue and sound effects.

2. Look at the picture. Discuss with someone in your house what could happen in this story. You can use the story starter idea OR just get some ideas from the picutre. Below there are some sample planning pages.

2b. Make a plan for your own story in your writing journal (blue). If you like some of my ideas, you can use them!

3. Write your story in your writing journal (blue). You don't need to do it all in 1 day.

3b. Edit your story. Read it over carefully and fix up any errors. There is a story checklist of the things I will be looking for.

3c. Ask your parents to send it to Mrs. Farmer.
