17/11/21 - The Lanes Hubb Records:
The event was an end of year college-style performance in collaboration with Hubb Records with several artists and bands performing, each with a 10-15 minute set. I arrived early for the event and learnt what the plan and set up is for the venue. Despite the L’acoustics sound system being somewhat overkill for the venue size, the sound perceived from the front of house booth does not accurately represent what is heard out of the system in the main listening space of the room, due to architectural acoustic shadows. When working a solo show this requires the engineer to run up and down the stairs to accurately judge what a mix requires. The venue also does not allow soundchecks between 18:00-19:00, this means that bands performing must arrive prior to this time. I carried out work focusing on stage management, changeovers, setting up instruments, and relaying to the lead engineer about what the overall mix needed. They negotiated with the manager about performing a line check into the desk but not through the system. I carried out the microphone and instrument checks, quickly, effectively and efficiently. Throughout the show I liaised with performers ensuring all needs and requirements were met. Due to the performers running late the show overran onto the next show of the night which was a late night DJ performance. Therefore a quick load out was carried out by myself and the lead engineer. We then spent extra time putting away all the equipment in a properly organised system.
