02/10/21 - Shiiku Festival:
A work opportunity was presented itself to help out with stage management and artist liaison roles at the Shiiku Festival. I independently got in touch with the manager and coordinator, Ruby. We had an in-person interview/meeting to negotiate all the expected work that would be required as well as time tables and shifts. I discovered on the day that a thorough team of sound engineers already existed and my presence was best used for additional tasks towards the running of the event. This included liaising with artists about the green room area, and ensuring each performer had a wristband. I assisted the outside engineers with sound checking the system, focusing on the drum kit timbre. I then reinforced my desk knowledge and understanding of equipment by identifying that one of the microphones required 48V phantom power from the desk, an SQ5. I assisted the inside main stage engineer, Giorgio Cortiana, with adjusting the stage set up for various artists, including moving mics and repositioning the DJ mixer position, paying close attention to mic adjustment in regards to front of house and omitting feedback. Remaining time was spent developing ticketing and door management skills, and reinforcing the safety and security of the venue site.
