Much of the interface is available in English, German, Spanish, and several other languages - select the language from the drop-down menu at the top of the screen. (Parts of the library catalog are only in German.)
To make an account, select Log In, and register a new account. All you need is an email address.
To activate your account, check your email and click on the link in the activation email.
Once your account is activated, go to "My Account" ("Mein Konto") and find the "My eLibrary" tab. If this page shows that your eLibrary is not yet activated, click the link to activate it.
A link should appear that says "eLibrary of the Goethe Institut". This will take you to the start page for the library catalog.
Like other e-book or audio book libraries, you can check out books for a defined period. Some books might not be available, and you can reserve them for later.
Audio books (eAudio) are audio only, without accompanying pictures or texts.
E-Books (Ebook) are text (with pictures, if applicable) only, with no accompanying audio.
Both can be viewed directly in the browser.
Audio books for early elementary:
Navigate to eAudio in the top menu.
There is a large, wide selection under "Kinderbibliothek." Use the filter function to narrow it down.
Under Category, select "Kinderbibliothek" and then a sub-category. Some good sub-categories to start with are "Für unsere Jüngsten" (For our youngest), "Freundschaft & Familie" (Friendship and Family), and "Tiere & Natur" (Animals and Nature).
For independent readers:
Under eBook or eAudio, try searching for a known book or character to start with.
Some series to try are:
