from our faculty

From Professor Jared Yates Sexton: Class of 2020. I know this is an odd moment, and probably an extremely bizarre and anxious time to graduate. But I hope you can find the belief within yourself that you can make the most of it. You have excelled and done so much in your career and the world needs writers to make sense of those things that seem to make no sense. They need writers to put these things into perspective, to communicate the important and vital and important things. It is an anxious, anxious period, and I am so sorry that your careers end on this bizarre note, but I hope you know that myself, and your other professors, take so much comfort knowing that you will be entering the world and plying your trade when we need you the most. Congratulations, and godspeed.

From Dr. Joanna Schreiber: Dear Graduates, Congratulations on this accomplishment! It has been a pleasure to see you in the halls, to work with you in class, and to experience your work at events. Please keep in touch with us. We are always your teachers, and we're always here for you. Best wishes for your future endeavors!

From Professor Amanda Hedrick: Seniors! Congratulations on your great accomplishments! It's been a pleasure having you in class, hearing you read your work, and seeing you around the Newton halls. You'll be missed, for sure, but we all know that you're on to bigger and better things. Go out there and show 'em who's boss!

From Professor Laura Valeri: Seniors, congratulations on your excellent accomplishments. Graduation is a great milestone. A great adventure is waiting for you out there, but I will miss having you in my classes. It has been an honor to know you. Even though school is over, know that I'm always here, if you need career advice, or a letter of recommendation, or if you just want to talk. Please stay in touch. I am sure, in the decades to come, that you will have the opportunity to find out just what a blessing it is to be a writer, not just for the skills that you have gained and how they can grow your career, but also for the ability to express yourself beautifully in this medium. I wish you all the best. May your future be bright and your hearts always full. Congratulations.
