A Kate Wood

Kate Wood is a Writing & Linguistics major with a minor in Anthropology. She recently completed her Honors Thesis entitled Forget Me Nots: Seven Short Stories of Historically Overlooked Women that highlights the lives of seven women across time and place who have been overlooked by history despite their impacts and accomplishments. She is also the current Editor-in-Chief for the University Honors Program Publications Department as well as a Writing Intern for the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority. In her free time she loves spending time with the people she loves, hanging out with dogs, and all things The Office.

"I entered this department with a sole interest in linguistics and, honestly, tried to avoid creative writing at all costs, so I definitely understand the hesitations and uncertainties that surround writing. Taking Creative Writing, not to sound cliché, but it really changed my life. I never thought I was good enough or really even capable of being a creative writer before that, but it really opened my eyes to all that I could do. Once I overcame my fear of creative writing, so many possibilities and opportunities opened up to me. It expanded my horizons past even my wildest dreams and I couldn’t be more grateful. So thank you to my first Creative Writing professor, Professor Sean Hill, as well as all of my other creative writing professors throughout my time here. You guys are really out here changing lives!

Since my acceptance of writing, I’ve been able to learn so much about myself and get to know some truly amazing people who share the same passion. The community here in the Writing & Linguistics Department is remarkable and by far one of the greatest things I’ve ever been a part of. I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating; I couldn’t be more grateful for these people and this place."
