This course laid great focus on refugees, as well as the IDPs, that were in the Arab world or from it and their struggles and road to achieving shelter. Looking at the true stories of what truly goes on in the Arab world with the refugees gave me a great perspective as the media coverage we see circling these refugees and IDPs is quite misleading. We learnt about their vulnerabilities, citizenship issues they face, how they move across borders and try to find refuge in other countries that are willing to help and provide aid. During the duration we mainly focused on the case studies of Palestine, Yemen, Iraq and Syria and how although the cases are very similar, yet they are very different within their details as is the case with anything. This highlighted for me that although there might be a case of biased media coverage of politicians all across the world, the case for Pakistan is unique in its own way and thus deserves to be analyzed in isolation from other cases from around the world. The complications that exist within a state are always unique to itself, which doesn't mean that other states don't play a role for the politics and media of that state but just that the case itself is unique to that region and that country. Seeing the media coverage that these states that are suffering through a great amount of migration within their community got was the most significant part nonetheless. It was important to see the way the western media covers the stories of Arab refugees and IDPs and the difference in the way the Arab region has done it. There still stands a difference in even the media coverage of the refugees between different Arab states which highlighted the intentions and the alliances of these different Arab states. In conclusion, with the context we were given, it was noteworthy to see what we knew of these conflicts and how they were depicted in the media.
